League Week 8
I wanted to improve my performance from the previous week since I felt like I didn't make the correct decisions in numerous spots, which inevitably cost me a deep run in the tournament. I didn't feel well and it had an impact on me at the table. So this week, no excuses.
I started off playing a wierd hand in the 2nd level (50/100). I raised in late position with AK and got 2 callers that originally limped. Continuation bet the flop and got 1 caller. Turned the ace and was check called. River blank and was check called again. Obviously I didn't think I was ahead when he called. I turned over my cards when he called and said "all I got is big slick" and he said he said he had A4 (for 2 pair) but threw his cards facedown on the muck instead of faceup. When he realized what he did, he tried to retrieve his cards from the muck. I didn't say anything but the dealer had to make a ruling of a dead hand (since he threw it in the muck) and also had to get a secondary ruling from the host. Regardless of what you say you had, technically, if its in the muck, its in the muck and its dead. It was a pretty decent sized pot too. However, not wanting to make a big deal about the whole ordeal, I said I won't give you the pot but I'll chop it and call it good. (Maybe some karma will come to my side right). He agreed and we move on. I was paid off later when he turned 2 pair and I made the nut straight. I came back from break with about 35K from an original start of 15K. 1st level back from break (100/200) I pick up KK and raise to 1200 behind 2 limpers and get 3 callers, the BB and orginal limpers. Flop comes J high rainbow and the BB leads out for 3K and I'm the only caller. I felt like I knew where he was at and thought I could get all this chips (because the majority of them will overplay top pair). Turn is another rag and he leads out again for 6K. At this point, I knew he would play a big pot and he thought he was good. I push all in and was snap called by AJ. River bricked and he lost 25K+ at the 100/200 level with TP/TK.
Once I got that chipstack, for the most part, people stayed cleared of me. I won a lot of pots uncontested and played super aggressive. I cruised into the final table and was good for 4th in chips. I wound up chopping the tournament 4 ways, good for $250 and took 3rd place points when we played it out for points. With blinds at 6K/12K at that point, even 100+ plus is still shortstacked. There were a few races that I lost where if I would have won, I would have taken 1st or 2nd but thats how final table poker goes sometimes. I was happy with the 3rd place finish after being the final table bubble last week. A few more successful finishes and I think I still have a shot at 1st overall. They haven't released this weeks standings yet but I think I should be in the top 8. I have a 2nd, 2nd, 3rd, 11th, 11th that will go towards the points total with 4 games left (of which 3 will count, top 8 scores overall). I have a missed week and 2 dismal performances that will be droppers. We are off next week and will resume play Nov 7.
See you at the felt!
