Poker gods LOVE to set me up!
Since I last checked in, I've played 2 cash sessions (one of which was half assed after the main event) and the league main event.
Aug 14 cash session Double stack. I really like the double stack days. .25/.50 with $100 buy in. You get so much more play and are able to make more "moves". I got paid off early when my
turned the nut straight with a guy holding trips. Then the same guy tried to make a move on me when I held
on a board of

. Talk about bad timing for him. He did get me back later in the night on this hand. I open raised with
in EP. MP (villain) calls as does LP. Flop comes

. I continuation bet (because I'm crazy), villain calls and LP folds. I'm still not convince he has anything at this point. Turn
. I bet 3/4 the pot ($15ish)and he min raises me. Instincts says to shove here. He left himself about $40 behind. IF I'm wrong, I know I can't win this pot. It'd be hard to when you think you're not even drawing live. I just had a hard time putting him a hand that could really call unless he had a monster of course. So, playing cautious, I lay it down. He nearly jumped out of his seat turning over his cards....
. The night kinda went sour for me after that. It could have been a direct reflection of that play. I was as high as 170ish but cashed out $80, for a loss of $20. Oh well.
Main Event - I was super excited for the Main Event. I was just glad to be there after having a terrible league performance. I felt like I belonged on that final table but my scores didn't prove it. Wil put up odds on the final table and if I win, he'd be down about $90 to everybody. Seems everybody thought I had a realistic chance. I started with 18K in chips, with the average being around 27K. I really didn't mind because we are SOOPER DEEP. By the first break, I had built my stack to around 25K without much confrontation. People were playing really passively and I took advantage. As the tournament progressed, it was really hard to win chips unless it was monster vs monster because people played super tight. We didn't lose a player until 3 - 4 hrs in. Then I made my ONE mistake of the night. I had built my stack close to 70K, good for 1st or 2nd in chips. I pick
in the SB and raise after the button limps. BB reraises and button reluctantly folds. 75% of the time I'm folding here. However, I read the BB for weak. I have been so aggressive throughout the night that he hasn't had a chance to play very many "limping" hands. Sitting to my immediate left, he had to come in for raises behind me. I RR all in. He went into the tank for a bit and reluctantly calls. I have 70K, he as 35Kish and turned over
. What I forgot to take into consideration at that time was I think he may have called me with hands like AJ, A10, or such. He had beeen so sick of me raising that he might have said screw it and gamble. I got so caught up in the "win his chips, dominate the table and win the tournament" mentality that I failed to take the "better spot" approach. I think this hand ultimately cost me the tournament. Because I was forced to make plays after that, raising with any ace if folded to me blah blah. I was knocked out in 7th, good for $100 but I could have done SO much better. There's always season 4 right?
I stayed after and played the cash game for a bit and I swear to hell the poker gods were setting me up. CONSTANTLY making 2nd best. Set over set, 2nd nut flush vs nut flush, bottom set vs top 2, etc. ALL NIGHT! Seriously. I have a mix tournament tonight and a big tourney tomorrow afternoon. Wish me luck!
Sorry for the scattered thoughts in this blog. My mind has been screwy lately.
