Also, best of luck to the Utah Shock tomorrow in their big semifinal game against the Cache Valley Bears. If any of you guys have free time, check it out at 12pm at Cottonwood High School. 2 more games for the SHIP! Go Shock!
Sahara Tourney
Rich, Wil, and I decided to go play the tourney instead of playing cash. Its a $45 entry +20 rebuy and a decent structure until you get really late. There was about 100 entries into the tourney and we each took 10% of each other. One of the horses (Wil) fell prior to break as KK just wasn't his money hand in this tourney. I sat down and after a couple of orbits, I felt like my table was really weak passive for the most part. The 2 players to my immediate right had no clue and neither did the 2 to my left. Example, player went all in on the river, guy to my right calls the all in with Q high. Dude, if you really don't want your chips, then just give them to me. A short time later, he checked last to act with a fullhouse. (I mean, it was only the 2nd nut full house...lol) So yeah, these were the type of players at my table and they loved their Ace rag. I mean LOVE IT. Ace duece especially because somehow someway, you can make a straight on the river.....(ok rant over on that one. Guy raised all in on me with ![]()

In that first block (blocks are 3 levels where at the end of each block, theres a break) I picked my spots really well. Betting and raising in position and taking down pots uncontested. I never had to stick my entire stack in the middle. The majority of my hands didn't even go to showdown. The only hand that did was when I had AA and a guy flopped bottom 2 pair with 10 4 in the BB. I didn't raise the pot in EP and no one raised behind me which sucked majorly. BUT lady luck was with me as the turn paired the top card and counterfieted his 2 pair. I went into break with about 25K in chips.
2nd block was terrible. I went completely card dead. Everytime I tried to make a move, someone came over the top of me and its really hard to call when you have garbage. I was trying to use my big stack but with new people being moved to the table (donkeys are getting elminated now) I couldn't get anything going. I can't even report on a hand because there wasn't any to report! I won a few small pots here and there but for the most part nothing. Went into 2nd break with 18K.
The 3rd block (I think 3 tables left at this point) things started to pick up a little. This is where the all in fests happen because you literally win/lose one pot and chips stacks change hands so quickly. I made sure when I raised and it looked like a steal, I'd show because I didn't want the chip leaders to my left thinking I was getting out of line (which I could use to my advantage later on). I built my stack when I won a race with Hellmuth's hand ![]()

When we finally condensed to the final table (woo hoo!) I had about 50K in chips, which was middle of the pack. There were a few guys that were pretty short and just waiting to stick it in somewhere. Again, I never really went to showdown at the final table either. By the time it got to 5 handed, blinds were 10K/20K and we were about 10 mins away from it being 20K/40K. RIDICULOUS! Mind you, theres only about 500K TOTAL chips in play. The "chip leader" had about 130K but thats 6 BBs and a M of about 4. Yeh. So at that moment, I proposed a 5 way chop and everybody agreed which gave us each about 775. Rich, from the meetup group, was also a member of this final 5 so it was definitely a good night for our "team." Wil, having 10% of each of us, also made a little profit there.
So all in all, it wasn't a bad day. I just wish I could have gone little deeper in the 1500 WSOP event. Oh well, theres always next time. All you can ask for is to make the right decisions when it comes up.
See you at the felt!
