Just Getting Caught Up
I've been so freaking busy to blog the last couple of weeks so I made a commitment today to blog a little bit. Its going to be a shortened version of things since my mind is on overload. Work has been busy, personal life is busy, just kinda hectic all around.
First, as most of you know, I made a personal commitment this year to get healthy. The journey started on Jan 9th @ 204 lbs and we sit at 181 lbs as of this morning. The journey is not over by any means but thats some pretty decent progress in 3 months. And of course, I document everything so here are some progress pics:

April 3 1/2 NL and Mix - This is pretty much the biggest game the group has ever had so I figured I'd go play. If the play is anything like the .25/.50 games, there's definitely money to be made. As expected, it was. I saw some of the wierdest plays. People calling raises and reraises out of position with hands that you just don't expect people to call with. I am one to never fault people to play whatever cards they want. I play a lot of strange hands. However, I usually have a purpose for the hands that I play. Rarely do I play a hand just to play a hand. 95% of the time if I play an odd hand, I'm the agressor or I'm in position. I'm not calling a raise and a reraise after limping in UTG with Q7s. That's just silly. But that was the type of play I was seeing.
When the most aggressive guy in the group doubles up in the first hand, you kind of get a sense that he's going to dictate the action on the table and won't give me any piece of the pie and thats how it went. I bought in for $200 and got as high as $350 and as low as $50 but ended the night at $193 for -7 for the night. I just couldn't get any momentum going. It is a juicy game though and I'll make money there in the future.
April 4 $40 single table freezeout + .25/.50 cash - 11 handed tourney. 11 players and I finished 6th. I was really upset on the way I went out. with blinds at 100/200, I push AI for about 4K on the button behind some limpers. I figured there was dead money in the pot and I'd take a chance with AQo. It was a great move but someone decided to look me up for 1/3 of their stack with 107o. Ok......He spiked a 10 on the turn and that was the end of that run for me. I stayed around and played a cash game afterwards and netted +43 profit.
April 5th .25/.50 2 sessions - Terrible day for poker. I just couldn't get anything going. I kept on making 2nd best hand and when I did have the best hand, they wouldn't hold up. I tried and trap people, which worked but then they'd catch up on the river. Just bad all around. Example: EP raises to $3, 1 caller, and I RR with
to $12. Everybody folds, including the original raiser, except the caller who goes AI for about $30. I call and he shows
. The board runs out

, not in that exact order but you get the idea. VERY NEXT HAND, against the same guy I get JJ and he gets QQ but his hand holds up and I double him up. Unreal. I was so close to laying it down and I should have laid it down but the previous hand had so much effect on me. I ended at -114 and then in the night session at my house I was -100. Terrible day for poker!
April 11 $40 2 table tourney + .50/1 cash - Finished about 13th out of 22. Again, couldn't get anything going. Its hard to get anything going when you have TV guy on your table. EVERY HAND was a decision for this guy. In 1 hour, we played 3 rounds and somehow, my table didn't even complete 2 orbits! Ridiculous. Of course I get frustrated and get it all in with 88 against K8 and K flops. Nice. Stuck around for the cash game and netted +340 in that though. It was about time too. I was making some sick plays and calls. Guy 2 seats to my right was a maniac and I would just let him do the betting and I would take chips off him. It was really nice.
April 12 $50 single table freezeout - Suck, finished 5th out of 9. 99 vs AA and good game me.
As you probably noticed, I've spent a lot more time playing tournaments lately rather than cash. I'm trying to fine tune my tournament game so I can be ready to play at the WSOP. What I'm starting to notice is I need to be more patient. I find myself getting frustrated by what other players are doing. I need to just play my game and not worry about what everybody else is doing as much. A lot of the players are really passive too and call just about anything. I'm going to mix things up a little bit in the next one and see what type of results I get. I'm also playing in a league starting in May which I'll be playing in every week so that'll be fun.
Wish me luck!
