10/11/07 - Quick Session before Vegas....
After my last session on October 2nd, I took some time off from poker just to clear my mind. Well, if you call a 10 days as time off. I knew I would be playing a lot of poker when I went to Vegas so I didn't want to have that burned out feeling. I played a .50/1.00 session last Thursday, the night before going to Vegas. I thought I played pretty well but still lost. I lost the minimum twice when I had AA and another time when I flopped top 2 vs a set. There was only one hand that had me thinking for the night. UTG+1 open raises to $4 and I get cute and call behind 3 callers with Jh2h in the bb. Flop brings Kh, another heart, and a rag. Check, check, utg+1 bets $12, folded to the sb who calls, so I call too. I wasn't too sure what the sb had in this spot yet. I didn't think he had a set or two pair because it was a draw heavy board. Unless he decided to get cute too and slowplay. utg+1 could have anything and continuation bet. Turn brought the 3rd heart. SB checks, I bet $20, and only utg+1 calls after some thought. I had him on a few hands at this point, AhK, AhA, maybe QhQ, etc. There was also a chance he held AhQh. River was non heart, non pairing so basically I held the 3rd nuts. Without much thought, I value bet $35. He was thinking for a quite a while, so I thought for sure I had the best hand. He finally calls me and I instantly turn over my Jack high flush. He turned over Qh9h. I was pretty shocked. Normally, he's not the type of player who would raise with that hand in early position. I guess it shows how far people have come along in there game in the group. Losing the hand didn't bother me that much. What bothered me was my thinking process of the hand. I don't know but when I was only called, I thought for sure he only had AK or something like that. Not a flush. I went broke not too much longer when I got shortstacked and pushed. Oh well, it happens I guess.
