Ok, I don't know what it is. Maybe I need to quit playing speculative hands early. Again, I basically got felted early on and had to make a comeback.
I limp in early position with KJs and called a raise by MP for $3.50. Flop K K 8. I check, MP bets $4, and I raise to $15. After some thought, my opponent calls. Turn 5. I bet $25 and he calls. Honestly, I felt I was beat at this point. I know my opponent pretty well. He may have called my check raise on the flop with AA. However, I don't think he calls my bet on the turn unless he has AK or 88. From his reaction and how the hand had played out thus far, it was definitely AK. River 3. I bet $35 and he calls. I say "AK good" and he turns over AK. I could have shut down on the turn but my opponent is capable of laying down AK if he feels like hes beat. My job was to figure out a way to convince him he was beat. But then again, not very many people lay down AK in that spot. I'm just not the type of player to "give up" on a hand. I had to keep the pressure on, don't I?
I call a raise out of the bb with KsJs from mp. Flop K 8 3, two spades. I check, villian bets $4 and I raised to $15. After thinking for a bit, he calls. Turn 6 spades. I act digusted and check. I guess it worked because he bet $7. I again check raised to $25 and was called pretty quickly. If he had the ace high flush, I was definitely going to pay him off. I figured he had to have a flush to call the way he did on the turn. I mean, I did check raise twice. River Ac. I went all in for about $50, and he folds. Honestly, I had no idea what he had.
I wasn't involved in too many big hands this session. I again, picked my spots well and played small ball. I think I was able to pick up a few tendencies of some of the new players today. I think this will help me out in future games. Next game, I'm going to play a little more snug early on and see what happens.
Total buy in: $175. cash out: 189.25.
