August 9, 2007 Game
Suprisingly, I played pretty passive overall in this session. My aggression level has worked pretty well in the past but I wanted to try a different approach to the game this time. Maybe it was just me, but it seemed the whole table became passive, a lot of limped pots. There were spots where I would raise out of the sb or bb with no hand really just to see what type of response I'd get. On one particular hand, I RR out of the bb to $9 after an opening raise of $3 and my opponent pushed AI. Luckily this time I had a real hand, AA and they held up.
I was able to build my stack up early on. The AA mentioned earlier definitely helped.
I raised behind 2 limpers in the cutoff with AJs, button calls, as does the 2 limpers. Flop brings J, rag, rag. EP bets $3, other limper calls, and I make it $15 to go. Button, a solid tight player, calls after some deliberation, and the others fold. I felt really good about my hand because I had him on QJ or KJ. If it was two pair, it was a wierd 2 pair and I think a set repops me there. It would be very uncharacteristic for him not to. Turn brought a 10 and we got it all in. He only had about $12 behind so it wasn't much and he turned over KJ. I had my stack hovering around $80 at that point.
I limp in with with 69s in mp, hoping to catch a big flop. Flop: 6 8 9, flush draw. Checked to me, I bet $3.50. 2 lp callers and a blind calls. Turn K, non flush. I bet $12, lp's called again, and blind raises for $19 more. At this point, I have about $50 behind. I was a little confused by the check raise. I thought a flopped straight was really possible, but why not raise on the flop with so many callers that could be on a flush draw? Set would raise there too, I thought. I'm trying to come up with different hand possibilities and none of them really makes sense with the flop call. I elected to isolate and go AI, hoping he was on a flush/straight draw. The other two players fold. My opponent turned over K9o. Board bricks out and I lose a big pot to him. That hand was a faint possibiilty but I didn't think K9 would just call the flop and not find out where he was at on that dangerous of a board. Oh well, it happens right.
Trying to use my tight image for the day, I got courageous and raised utg with K2o to $3.50. I was rr to $15 in mp. I was so close to mucking but I decided to play. Reason: this one hand, I wanted to see if I can outplay my opponent and see if I'm right. I had him on a big pocket pair, JJ, QQ, KK, AA. IF somehow, I get lucky and flop big (2 2 rag, K K 2, etc) then more power to me. What I planned on doing was to make a move at the pot if an A or K flopped. Reason being is if an A flopped, I going with he doesn't have AA and if a K flops, well, he has to have the last two in his hand. Flop A 2 6, rainbow. I sat up in my chair and went all in for $35. My opponent mucks QQ face up and I turn over K2off. Lets just say I could tell he wasn't a happy camper. I think it was one of my best moves I've pulled off.
I pretty much played small ball the entire night. Picking my spots here and there but I know I missed a few value bets. Overall, stuck in the game $80 and cashed out $117.50 so a decent night.
Until next time!
