I woke up with no particular plans. I got a text from Rich saying he wasn't going to play in the Venetian and was going to Binions instead, so that was an option. I considered just playing cash all day. After some deliberating, I concluded on the Venetian. I gotta run good in this stupid tournament sooner or later right?
Made my way to the Venetian, bought in to the tournament and got table 1. Table 1 is kinda cool because its in their private salon room where they hold those big games (similar to Bellagio's Bobby's room). They have a couple of plasma tvs hanging up and its dead quiet, since your secluded from the poker room. I sat back and didn't play too many hands in the 1st level and didn't have to show any hands. Early in the 2nd level (50/100), I raised the pot to 550 with 44 behind 2 limpers. Everyone folds (I was playing extremely tight) except one of the limpers(who was also playing very tight. There was a showdown earlier where he flopped the nut straight). Flop: 489 rainbow (1 heart). Check, and I bet 1200, standard continuation bet. He raised to 3000. At this point, I didn't put him on a set of 8 or 9. I had him on something like 10s, A9, J10, etc. Since he had been playing really tight, if I had something like AK, AQ, KQ, i'd have to lay down. I hollywood for a minute and go all in for 5500ish. Instacall. I thought, oops, he must have a set of 8s or 9s. He turns over Q9 of hearts. WTF? I said "you jeopardize all your chips here?" Well, I guess he knew something I didn't because the turn/river came running hearts and I was out of the tournament. I hate it when people tell me "sorry" after they knock you out of the tournament too. I got up, wished everyone luck, kicked a slot machine on the way out of the poker room, and walked out of the Venetian.
I was extremely disappointed with the results. In that situation, I would want him to call 100% of the time given his cards so it was the right play, just the wrong outcome. I didn't want to go sit live game with my current state of mind because I knew I would just donk off chips. I went back to my hotel room, watched tv for a bit and decided to go to the Rio. When I got to the Rio, there were no satellites table going as the $1500 event pretty much used up every single one. I texted Rich and wished him luck in his tourney and he would text me updates at every break. The final table of one of the stud events was going on with Daniel and Lisandro so I figured I'd watch that while my tiltometer calmed down.
A little while later, the satellites started up again and I went and signed up for a $175. We wound up chopping it 3 ways for $540. I played another $225 which we also chopped 3 way and played for the extra chip and cash. Netted around $650 total. By this time, Rich was knocked out of Binions (on the bubble) and he was going to come pick me up and grab a bite to eat. We went to some pizza joint and discussed poker.
Next on the list was Harrahs for their 11 pm tourney. The tourney starts with a good blind structure but then gets a little hectic midway through. They start doubling blinds and antes and it becomes a push fest. There was a hand where I made a move with AA and it just happened to be Rich who I doubled through holding 8,9. I wound up finishing 10th in the tourney when my luck ran out. Rich chopped it heads up for $750ish. Luckily, I had a stake in him but I lost my last longer bet. Good to see Rich cash in a tournament. We both weren't quite ready for bed so we headed down to Casino Royale to shoot some craps. The shooters were pretty cold so we didn't make any money until the dice got into our own hands. Rich rolled 4 points and I rolled 3, plus a bunch of elevens and numbers in between. We immediately left after I rolled. Rich cashed out a nice profit ($?) and I cashed out over $300. By this time, it was close to 5 am and Rich was ready for bed so we went our separate ways. My flight was scheduled to leave at 8:30 so there was no point in going to bed now. I stayed up, played blackjack for a bit, and went straight to the airport. I slept at the airport, on the plane, and all day Friday.
